Just Okay Gift Boxes

Experiential Activation

September - November 2019

Agency: BBDO New York

Production: On the Level Fabrication

Role Lead producer to find fabrication partners and manage all workstreams--internal and external–for the Just Ok Gift shells. In addition, I oversaw the production of all printed pamphlets, recycled gift wrapping paper, store activation pieces, and website–illustrations for wrapping directions and development of the website.

No one enjoys receiving a gift that is just OK--right? Based on that universal truth, AT&T prepared a way for customers to surprise and prank their loved ones during the Holiday season.

In select AT&T flagship stores, customers who bought phones as gifts were invited to choose from a range of prank gift boxes that have the shape of an undesirable gift---football, blender, and teapot. The gifter was given, from AT&T, holiday designed gift wrapping, made from recycled paper, and a plastic shell that resembled the undesirable item to receive, created from recycled water bottles, level 1 recycling (most universal across the US). All fun and games.

We thought it may be difficult to wrap such an item successfully, so we built a website with step-by-step illustrations and video tutorials for each shape. A total of 5,000 gift boxes were produced, and they became available on Thanksgiving to shoppers from 8 flagship stores across the country.

The Just OK Gift Boxes are part of AT&T’s ongoing network messaging, Just OK Is Not OK.
